About the Executive committee
The Group Executive is the body that runs the Group at the 'blunt end' and is the legal entity as far as the Charities Act is concerned. All decisions regarding finance and operations take place at the executive meetings once every two months. We have an Annual General Meeting soon after our fiscal year end which is 31/03. Decisions regarding the running of the sections (the sharp end) takes place at the leaders meetings.
The executive committee consists of the following members:
- Chairman
- Group Scout Leader (Uniformed)
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Quartermaster
- Parent representatives from each of the sections
In our Executive committee we also like to have the leaders (or their representative) at the meetings so they can report on their activities.
All members of the Group Executive are fully CRB (Police) checked even if they are not in direct contact with children. This is a policy decision that was made by the Group under recommendation from the Scout Association.
Equal opportunities.
We operate an equal opportunities policy and take children from all different backgrounds regardless of creed, colour, gender and disability. Obviously, we have to consider cases of disability on a case by case basis as some of the activities may not be suitable for some individuals.
Finance.
As a Group we have to raise funds to survive. We have to pay for insurance, equipment, uniforms, leader training, badges, some activities and other items. To that end we charge each child £25.00 per quarter (or part) to attend the regular group meetings. We also organise fund raising activities and apply for grants off local organisation and the local council to support us. We rarely organise social fund raisers as these tend to be poorly attended.
Camps and other major activities throughout the year are charged for on a per event basis. Once a year, the group does subsidise an event for each section to the tune of £10.00 per child.
The Group does present its accounts to the membership at the Annual General Meeting which is usually held soon after our fiscal year end (31/03). All members of the Group are encouraged to attend this event.
