FAQ's - Your questions answered
How do I know that my child is safe?
All of the management of the Group know how important your child's safety is, especially in this day and age. All those involved in running the Group are police vetted by the Scout Association before they can take up their position. As far as adventurous activities are concerned, we can only take children out these sorts of activities if we are fully trained and tested to the high standards laid out by the Scout Association.
How much do I pay and where does the money go?
The current rate of subscription is £25.00 per quarter, payable in January, April, July and October. If you have signed up to Gift Aid your annual £100.00 subscription is worth £128.00 to the Group. The money we raise from subscriptions will pay for Scout Association 'Capitation' or Insurance, the rest goes to general maintenance, the ongoing purchase of equipment, training, uniforms and some activities. We aim not to make a profit or loss each year. Some years we try to top up the accounts so it may appear that we are making a profit.
We have several convenient ways that you can make payments to the Group for your membership subscriptions including Standing Order, internet banking, PayPal, Cheque and cash. More detail can be found on the
payments page.
We issue annual accounts at the Group Annual General Meeting which is usually within 2 months of our fiscal year end which is 31st March.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift aid is the more flexible replacement for the various old schemes for donating tax efficiently to charities. We have registered as a charity under the Royal Charter that the Scout Association holds. If you are a UK tax payer and are willing to fill out a very simple (yes, simple!) form then we can claim the tax relief on your payments to the Group. Currenty we can claim 28% back from the government. So, if you have not 'Gift Aided' please download a form from our
downloads area and send bring it in to your section leader or post it off to the treasurer's address which can be found on the
contact page. You only have to fill out one form per family and you only fill it out one time. It will cost you nothing.
You are very welcome to come and meet us. We can discuss the vacancies that we may have and whether it be on the committee or at the sharp end helping at a section we would love to have you on board.
Every adult that had contact or has a management responsibility at the Scout Group has to be police checked. This is a policy decision within the Group and is the norm on a national basis. We can give you more information when we meet.
